As part of their visit to Cebu, the city councilors and officials from the City of Yokohama, Japan and members of the JICA delegation held a dialogue with the Chairman of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) Mr. Joel Yu last November 8, 2017 at the MCWD head office in Cebu City.

Prior to the dialogue, the group conducted a site visit to the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO), situated in the North Reclamation Area, to check the Septage treatment plant which was a pilot project of JICA.
The dialogue between MCWD and the Yokohama councilors and officials revolved around the current situation of the water management of Metro Cebu. They were also keen to know about the agency’s plan on the sewerage system amidst the pressing issue of floods. Members of the JICA delegation also presented their queries and updates to the Chairperson as they discussed the different projects they have in which MCWD has benefitted from. Mr. Yu addressed all their queries providing them updates on their plans to address the different problems concerning water management – from demand and supply gap up to the issue on the floods.

After the dialogue, Mr. Yu expressed his gratitude to the City of Yokohama and JICA for their continuous support and their initiatives for Metro Cebu. The partnership between MCWD and JICA through the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) has been vital to the improvement of the water management of Metro Cebu.
