Unfortunately, during the war in 1941, Holy Child Hospital was burned down and all the patients were then forced to evacuate to Danao and Ilo-Ilo city. It was only in 1950 that the Archbishop of Cebu requested that the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres return to Cebu.

The hospital was then reborn under the name Perpetual Succour Hospital with the help of Manuel de Veyra M.D., who had served as the hospital’s medical director for over seven (7) years. In 1959, their hospital, with a bed capacity of only one hundred (100), was blessed.

Perpetual Soccour Hospital today has about a bed capacity of two hundred forty (240) and like Cebu Doctors’ Hospital has a tertiary accredited level for both education and medical training. Perpetual Soccour Hospital is known for its traditional innovation in medicine and leadership in various medical specialties through their expressive catholic values.

The hospital also houses a seven (7) story SPC Medical Specialty building which includes their cancer institute, rehab and sports medicine center, nuclear medicine facilities, eye and dental centers, even their varicose center, doctors’ clinics and many other medical facilities.

4.) Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center

Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) is tertiary level public healthcare facility that is owned by the Philippine Government. Their main goal is to be able to provide affordable and accessible high-quality healthcare services to every Filipino regardless of their social status.

Operations at VSMMC started as early as 1911 under the name Hospital Del Sur and was officially established in April 11, 1913. It was granted status on January 2, 1913 and changed its name to Southern Hospital. Back then, their bed capacity was only 30.

It wasn’t until they were transformed into a medical center in 1984 that their bed capacity increased to over 350. On May 21, 1992, the hospital’s name was legally name Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and shortly after, their bed capacity also increased to about 400. During 1998, the hospital’s bed capacity then grew to an astounding 800.

Since the beginning, the hospital’s goal was to expand and improve their medical services available in order to keep up with standards and number of people that are seeking medical attention.

The hospital was first opened by Dr. Francisco T. Geslani on April 8, 1956. The hospital’s bed capacity started at around twenty (20) with a staff of about sixteen (16) people.

Due to the increase of their patients, the hospital added a new wing in 1964. This allowed them to fully accommodate many other patients and their respective needs.
