The Cebu City Public Library (CCPL) will celebrate its 99th anniversary on April 14 with the launch of its flagship project, Basa Kabataan, to strengthen its commitment in spreading the love of reading to the youth.
CCPL librarian Rosario Chua said representatives from government, non-government organizations and library volunteers will join the event that will also serve as countdown to the library’s centennial year on 2019.
Mayor Tomas Osmeña and City Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña were invited to attend the event.
The Cebu City Youth Development Office, Basadours, Zonta Club of Cebu II, Youth for Livable Cebu, Reading Ruffolos, USC Library System, CCPL staff and other library volunteers will also be present.
Twelve individuals, who will represent organizations, will wear yellow aprons on the launching day to signify those who are instrumental in the growth of the library.
Chua said the yellow aprons symbolize the friends of the CCPL who are working together to make the library a productive space for learning and development.
In the afternoon of April 14, artist Joan Florido will offer a free watercolor painting workshop for public school teachers. Cris Evert Lato-Ruffolo, creative director behind Reading Ruffolos (www.readingruffolos.com) is spearheading “Toddler Storytime with Nanay Cris” at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. She will hold the same sessions on all Thursdays of May.
Volunteer storytellers from Basadours Inc. will also hold the Summer Saturday Storytime with simultaneous storytelling sessions for children and lectures/sharing sessions with parents on child protection and importance of reading. They will hold the sessions on April 21 and 28, as well as on May 5, 12, 19, and 26, from 1 to 5 p.m.
