How does El Niño and La Niña affect us?
The land down under, Australia, has been feeling the extremes of weather conditions for the past couple of years.
Changes in topography have been increasingly apparent as the shifts in weather and climate have been loading unwanted effects that hurt people and the country’s economy.
A country as big as Australia with varying climate conditions in various states and territories has been experiencing extreme drought and intense torrential rain. If we liken it to the conditions currently experiencing in Cebu, which is a just a microcosm of a small tropical country, then what Cebuanos and people in Cebu are worrying are practically and technically similar to what the Australians are feeling during weather extremes.
We thought that Cebuanos are immune to this kind of flooding on the streets but we are proven wrong.
When preparedness to this condition is not set — even though there are programs being placed or, perhaps, executed in a subtle and disappointingly ineffective way — then the challenges begin, surprisingly affecting the norms, lifestyle and people’s mood.
How much of that is caused by the weather created by El Niño and La Niña?
We have the infographic to show. Hopefully, this can help in a way to better educate us about the effects of El Niño and La Niña. Because sadly, these effects are not to be taken lightly.
