The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organizing the 4th Cebu Run for the Rivers this June 25, 2016. The purpose of this fun run event is to rehabilitate the Cebu rivers particularly Guadalupe river and Mahiga creek.
The 4th Fun Run for the Rivers will have its gun start at SM Seaside City Mountain Wing on June 25, 2016. Some trails will extend far into Gaisano Talisay and Shell at the South Roads Properties (SRP) and some will include the Malacanang sa Sugbo and Plaza Independencia. As expected, SRP roads will be partially closed for the race.
The over-all Chair of Cebu Business Month 2016 regards the fun run as an advocacy to help in the creation of bokashi balls.
The pollution of Cebu rivers should be solved and the rivers must be cleaned in order for the problem of dengue cases to be reduced.
Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) along with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) hopes to raise a minimum of P50, 00o for the river cleanup. The organizers hope to bring more to extend the implementation to other Cebu rivers.
Bokashi balls are a mixture of Effective Microorganism (EM), molasses, rice husk which is rich in vitamin D for propagation of the bacteria, and clay or garden soil. 20 inches in diameter, the specialty balls need a minimum of 2 weeks for propagation of the EM bacteria. Designed by the Japanese in the 1960s during the Industrialization period, these EM bacteria are used to clean up the chemical sludges in the rivers from the factories.
2-3 bokashi balls are required in every square meter in order to be effective. A period of 6 months is projected to fully accomplish this.
How to Make Bokashi
Having experienced the worries and danger of dengue within his family and relatives, Paro-an takes the advocacy to heart to encourage more Cebuanos to be more mindful on the risk of this deadly disease brought about mainly by a specie of mosquito.
CBM committee hopes to exceed 3, 000 registrants for the fun run.
The registration fees for the fun run will be as follow:
3 kilometers for P400, 5 kilometers for P450, 10 kilometers for P550, and 21 kilometers for P650.
Transportation for participants from SM Cebu to SM Seaside will be provided from 3:00 am to 4:30 am. The race will start at 4:30 am at the SM Seaside. 20 CITOM and 50 PNP personnel with radio communicators are on standby to police around the circuit for the runners.
Freebies are given to participants includiong Gatorade, Energen, Julie’s, discounts from Zalora and Food Palace and many more. RC Goldline will be raffling off electronics and a mountain bike.
Cash prizes will be given to winners of the 21K (P10, 000), 10K (P5, 000), and 5K (P3, 000).
Registration Centers are located at the SM City Cebu; SM City Seaside; Cebu City Sports Center, Athletics Department; Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and at the main lobby of Cebu City Hall.
