Cebu is known for housing many tourist spots in the Philippines. From beaches to historical landmarks– indeed, Cebu has got it for you. Another thing to look forward to in Cebu is the amazing skyline from above, which overlooks hundreds of tall buildings and gives Cebuanos their wanted night sky view.
Moreover, various architectural firms are now planning on making additional structures to these attractions. Below are some of the Cebu iconic skyscrapers that are already in talks:
From the designers of the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, CLI hired Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) to work hand-in-hand in building one of Cebu’s soon to rise iconic skyscrapers.
In a December 9, 2019 disclosure, this tower is expected to be a mixed-use community building with a hotel, office, and retail components adjacent to Ayala Center Cebu, to cater to Cebuanos global services and needs. Situated along Cebu Business Park (CBP), next to the AppleOne building, it will definitely add to the glamour the Queen City of the South is known for.
The architectural company holds a 43-year lease contract for the vacant lot, one of the last remaining undeveloped lots in the city’s most prime business hub.
Although CLI hasn’t made an official announcement regarding the partnership, the project’s site, now barricaded with construction tarpaulins, bears the name logo of SOM, which seems to be a hint for everyone that they are pushing through with the project.

According to CLI Chief Operating Officer Franco Soberano, he said in an interview: “We are also excited to build this icon for Cebu. Hoping it will be a great symbol for Cebu’s progress and being a global city”.
Firms partnering with global brands have become a known trend in Cebu, said Joey Bondoc, a senior research manager at Colliers International Philippines. He ascribed this to the increasing competition and expensive land values, pushing developers to build more luxurious projects.
Another Cebu iconic skyscraper we are looking forward to seeing is The Rainbow Tree, a Paris-based tower designed by Vincent Callebaut Architectures.

The Rainbow Tree is a green building in development that is soon to rise at the 50-hectare Cebu Business Park. This 32-story, 115-meter high “organic” residential tower will be situated at the corner of Samar Loop and Cardinal Rosales Avenue.
This project serves as an ode to Eucalyptus Deglupta, or the Rainbow Eucalyptus, an iconic and colorful tree in the Philippines. According to designer Vincent Callebaut, the building structure will be made of solid wood, as “it is the only natural, abundant and renewable material.”
He also said: “This organic tower integrates the principles of passive bioclimatism and advanced renewable energies,” which will be adorned with the beautiful plant essences from neighboring tropical forests.
Definitely, Cebu is growing into one of the leading districts for housing world-class projects like these. It definitely adds excitement to Cebuanos as we get astonished by what we see before our own eyes. These architectural masterpieces come once as Cebu moves higher as a hub for design and innovation.
Are you thrilled to see these iconic skyscrapers lit up and be seen on the Cebu skyline? Great! We’re excited as you are!
