The Philippines is home to a lot of beautiful sceneries dubbed as world class tourist spots. And some of them can be found in the province of Bohol. Though it still pales in comparison to Cebu when it comes to economic growth, it’s untouched and well maintained vistas are the reason why many tourists visits this island.

Abatan River

This river cruises through a dense nipa forest. The cruise features a tour of the river, a mini cultural show and a trip to a handicraft weaving place.

Chocolate Hills

This is Bohol’s trademark and its main attraction – approximately 1,268 perpetual cone shaped hills scattered around three towns in the interior part of Bohol. The most striking features of these hills is that the change color during summer due to the grasses turning brown, giving it the appearance of gigantic hershey’s kisses.
More than a thousand one-shaped hills surround tourists in the two viewing areas in Carmen Town and Sagbayan Peak. This place is usually included in the Bohol Countryside Tour.

The Philippine Tarsier

The Philippine Tarsier or simply the tarsier is the second smallest primate in the world and they’re an endangered species. And yes, they’re also found in Bohol. Tourists would even go out their way just so they could see these pretty little things. A quick note though when you do see them – you can’t bring them home.
The Tarsier Conservation Area is a six-hectare woodland area located in Loboc. A designated display area is open daily for tourist. Picture taking using a flash and holding the tarsier is a no-no in this place.

Baclayon Church

This church sits right at the center of town of Baclayon and is regarded as the 2nd oldest church in the Philippines. The church is home to a couple of religious artifacts that date back to the 1500’s. The sad part is that this church was also one of the casualties when Bohol got hit with a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. The government has begun planning on the reconstruction of the Baclayon church.

Shell Museum

If you’re shell-lover at heart, then you’ll surely love this. The Shell Museum houses a lot of shells with varying designs and shapes, making it one of the largest shell collections in the world. This establishment was founded by Quirino Hora, a renowned sea explorer himself.

Punta Cruz Watchtower

A piece of history that has existed for centuries, the Punta Cruz Watchtower will give anyone a great view of the sea. This watchtower found on the town of Maribojoc is made of cut coral stone and bricks placed in front of the sea facing towards Cebu, Siquijor and Mindanao.

Bohol is home to a lot of natural wonders and also man-made ones. This one in particular, is a 2 kilometer stretch of mahogany trees in Bilar, Bohol. And you don’t need to seek out this place – you’ll be able to see it along the road when en route to the Chocolate Hills. An small island that one can access after a 15 to 20 minute ride from Panglao island, Virgin Islands is like a hidden, untouched  paradise on earth – hence the name. Clear waters, great sand beaches and great local marine delicacies – a trip here would definitely be worth every penny.
This island is called such because of its long sand bar that is made of fine white sand. One has to consider the tide before going to this heavenly location. Motorized boats can take you here on low tide only.

Did you know Bohol has made a name for itself because of its natural land formations? And I don’t mean those choco colored hills. It’s the more than 1,400 caves found around the province that earned it the nick “Cave Country”. One of the most popular of these is the Hinagdanan cave located 15 km from Tagbilaran city.
This limestone cave is a naturally lighted cave because of the lights coming thru the holes in its ceiling. It is named as such because one has to go through a ladder (hagdan in Filipino) to get inside the cave.

This body of water is a mixture of mystery and wonder. The Canawa Spring is a 15-20 meter in diameter pool but it’s actual depth is still unknown. Danao Adventure Park offers pure adventure and extreme fun. Activities such as the Sky Ride, Suislide, River Trekking, Wall Climbing, Rapelling, Climbing and many others are all found in this park. There’s the half kilometer zipline 200 meters above sea level which is a really great thrill ride, however, the Plunge, which is like a modified bungee jump attraction is definitely for those thrill seekers.
