Manila, Philippines – Last November 2021, 39-year old Filipino painter, Christian Oliver Talampas sent his five-foot artwork to Michael Jordan depicting the NBA Superstar’s “Last Shot”. The artwork came back to Talampas with a signature and dedication from Michael Jordan on January 25, 2022.
“Until now, hindi ko parin po mapaliwanag yung nararamdaman ko. Surreal. Hindi ako makapaniwala na may isang Pilipino palang magagawa ito. Hindi ko inaakalang ako po yung makakagawa nito,” Talampas said in an interview.
Talampas painted the five-foot artwork of the NBA superstar Michael Jordan’s “Last Shot” in a span of 72 days.
Talampas previously went viral on Tiktok after a video in which he appealed to the public to assist him in reaching the NBA superstar.
Brian Apodaca, an OG shoe collector residing in the United States, offered to help Talampas to coordinate with Jordan’s team to make it happen.
When Apodaca sent a message to Talampas, stating that he wanted to help the artist reach the NBA superstar. Talampas was skeptical at first but was later convinced that Apocada was the real deal and had connections to Michael Jordan’s team. After that, Talampas sent a sample printed copy of his “Last Shot” artwork to check if Michael Jordan would like it.
For Talampas, it boosted his confidence as an artist, and he hoped that what happened to him would also inspire other creators. “Wag kayong mawawalan ng pag-asa na magtiwala sa sarili n’yo, na maniwala kahit wala nang naniniwala sa ‘yo,” Talampas added.
He didn’t only get his artwork signed by NBA superstar Michael Jordan but also he received a deck of cards used by MJ himself and a T-shirt from Jordan’s exclusive merchandise.
