[Cebu City] June 21, 2022— Maria Santos-Greaves, a Canadian-Filipina businesswoman, beat the obstacle of hearing loss and won the 2022 Surrey Women in Business Awards in British Columbia, Canada.
Santos-Greaves immigrated to Canada from the Philippines, she started working in a dollar store, sold registered education savings plans and worked at a call center.
She also became an audiometric technician at Fraser Health before venturing out on her own to start her business.
In this year’s Surrey Women in Business Awards, Maria Santos-Greaves was one of six women acknowledged for their services to the community.
Maria Santos-Greaves, president and operations director of Surrey Hearing Care, won under the Entrepreneur category.
Surrey Hearing Care provides hearing care services, including hearing evaluations and digital hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and counseling.
The Filipino-Canadian entrepreneur, who has had hearing loss since she was in her twenties, has made it her life’s work to assist the deaf, particularly the elderly.
“I understand the severity of hearing impairment and how vital hearing is to be able to communicate with my loved ones and enjoy life to the fullest.”
Maria Santos-Greaves is a graduate from Centro Escolar University’s Pharmacy department in the Philippines, where she was awarded the Dean Epifania Excellence Award. She went on to MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, and the International Hearing Society for further training in hearing instrumentation.
