The Bacolod City Council has passed legislation designating Chicken Inasal as Bacolod’s important cultural property.
According to the ordinance, TasteAtlas.com, an online food critic website that analyzes various foods and cuisines from around the world, ranked chicken inasal fifth best among all chicken meals around the world.
They also stated on the website that “chicken inasal”, a “unique Filipino grilled chicken meal that originated here and become the hallmark food of the entire Visayas area”
The law will be known as the “Chicken Inasal Cultural Property Rights Ordinance.” Written by Councilor Em Ang, head of the Committee on History, Culture, and the Arts.
Bacolod City has “Chicken Alley.” It was the ancestor of the renowned Manokan Country. A street lined with food vendors serving freshly charcoal-grilled chicken inasal as early as the 1970s
The National Commission for Culture and Arts’ Philippine Registry of Cultural Property will record chicken inasal as a “locally important cultural property.” Bacolod City Tourism Office (BCTO) said. The City Council accepted the measure on the third and final reading of their regular session on November 16.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) decided that it was necessary to approve the law in order to maintain and defend this city’s rights to chicken inasal as cultural property.
