Chantal Schmidt came close to securing the Philippines’ third Miss Eco International title, finishing as the First Runner-Up in the 2024 edition of the pageant held in Egypt on Sunday (early Monday morning in the Philippines).

Despite the near-miss, her performance garnered recognition, earning her the Best National Costume award alongside delegates from Nigeria, Ecuador, Ukraine, and Canada.

The crown went to Angelina Usanova from Ukraine, while other delegates completing the Top 5 included representatives from Canada, Brazil, and Indonesia.

Schmidt’s Inspirational Speech

During the question and answer segment, Schmidt’s speech centered on the notion that “there is no wrong way to be a woman.” She cited her own experiences as both a beauty queen and an aspiring lawyer, illustrating how she breaks stereotypes while embracing them.

In her words, “I stand here as an aspiring lawyer and also a beauty queen. I am someone who breaks stereotypes but also embraces them. I am a woman in a male-dominated industry, but I am also a woman in a female-dominated industry.”

Schmidt’s message highlighted that pageants empower women by promoting inclusivity and diversity, demonstrating that any path a woman chooses to take is valid and deserves respect.

She added, “Whether that’s through pageantry and the glitz and glamour, or roughing it out in male-dominated industries, regardless of who you are, you see yourself in one of these women, and that is something to be proud of.”

Health Setback

The Miss Philippines organization praised Chantal Schmidt for her determination and resilience in overcoming a health setback during her journey to Miss Eco International 2024.

On its social media pages, the organization stated, “You decided to push on through sheer will and dedication. We couldn’t ask for more. Congratulations on winning Miss Eco International 2024 1st Runner-Up, and thank you for representing the country so well, Chantal. You have made us proud.”

Schmidt’s strong showing at the pageant continues the Philippines’ success in Miss Eco International, with Kathleen Paton and Cynthia Thomalla previously winning the crown.
